The World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) has published a report titled "That was the last time I saw my brother", which is the first research focusing on extrajudicial killings in Libya. According to the report, Libyan law enforcement agents and militias killed at least 581 civilians, both nationals and migrants, between January 2020 and March 2022. This number includes people executed in detention facilities or tortured to death.

South Africa has formally taken over the chairpersonship of the Southern African Development Community, SADC, at the regional bloc's 46th summit in Durban. Accepting the role, President Cyril Ramaphosa said South Africa was taking on the responsibility with humility and a strong sense of duty.He said the country remained grateful to its neighbours, whose support and solidarity contributed to South Africa's struggle for liberation from apartheid.The summit is focusing on ways to promote sustainable and inclusive industrialisation through infrastructure development, agriculture and the processing of critical minerals.  Channel Africa's Michael Mbewe reports.

The United Nations says humanitarian workers are facing growing levels of violence, with hundreds killed, injured or kidnapped each year. As the world marks World Humanitarian Day today, this year’s campaign is highlighting the families of aid workers who have lost their lives, and the dangers facing those delivering assistance in conflict zones.

Students who attended the "Aluta Continua : Samora Machel, Liberarion Movements and the Unfinished Decolonial Project" symposium adopted the Makhanda Youth Declaration on Decolonial Futures. The symposium was hosted at Rhodes University, in Makhanda in South Africa's Eastern Cape province. Scholars, thinkers and Samora Machel's family members disccussed what remains unfinished about Africa's liberation project. The meeting comes forty years since the passing of Mozambique's first president and liberation icon. Thuto Ngobeni has the report..
