Every August, South Africa marks Women's Month, commemorating the 1956 march by more than 20,000 women on the Union Buildings in Pretoria against apartheid-era pass laws - a moment that gave South Africa its enduring rallying cry, "you strike a woman, you strike a rock." Government, business and civil society use the month each year to reflect on how far women's rights have come, and how far they still have to go - from politics and social protection to, increasingly, the economy. This year, that conversation is playing out in boardrooms as much as in commemorations. At a business forum in Johannesburg, speakers turned their attention to the economic side of the story - unequal pay, limited access to finance and opportunity, and the continued underrepresentation of women in leadership - and called for real investment behind the month's messaging. Political interference and the weak enforcement of land laws have become primary drivers of widespread land grabbing across South Sudan. A research firm in South Sudan - Institute of Social Policy and Research found that politicians are actively aiding the illegal seizure of ancestral and community lands. South Sudan has been at war for over a decade, since Independence. Though the region has endured a staggering 44 collective years of warfare when factoring in its struggle for self-determination prior to independence. Millions have been displaced and hundreds of thousands have been killed. The persistent internal conflicts have completely broken down the nation's formal statutory governance, leaving an institutional vacuum. This has led to powerful political and military figures systematically exploit the instability.

South Africa is seeking to deepen its energy partnership with China as it looks to attract billions of rand in investment to modernise its electricity infrastructure and support the transition to cleaner energy. Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is leading a high-level delegation to Beijing for the South Africa-China Electricity and Energy Investment Conference, where government officials will present investment-ready projects and hold talks with Chinese partners on financing, technology and infrastructure development.
