Tanzania has recently dismissed a Human Rights report that outlines a range of abuses occurring in the country as it prepares for local government elections next month.
The Tanzanian government has characterized the report as exaggerated and lacking credibility, sparking controversy as human rights issues take center stage in the lead-up to the elections.
The rights group that published the report has called on Tanzanian authorities to take urgent measures to address the deteriorating human rights situation.
To discuss this further, is Oryem Nyeko, Senior Africa Researcher at Human Rights Watch.
