Gauging progress of women's participation in African politics

Across the world, there is no denying that the political space has been viewed as a male domain. Africa is no different as men to this day dominate most of the major political positions in African countries.

The year 2024 will see many African countries holding their general elections, but in many countries, women's representation in public office is quite low and so is their participation in elections as candidates.

To discuss the slow progress of women's political participation and in particular, leadership Aurelie Kalenga spoke to Dr Shingirai Mtero, Post Doctoral researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute currently working on the project, 'Making Politics Safer - Gendered Violence and Electoral Temporalities in Africa'.
