In an effort to rebuild relations between South Africa (SA) and the United States (US), Former SA Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas has been appointed as special envoy to the US.
Jonas has been entrusted with the responsibility to advance SAs diplomatic, trade and bilateral priorities. Relations between SA and the US have become increasingly strained after Donald Trump's return to the White House. The US last month expelled SA's Ambassador, Ebrahim Rasool, over remarks he had made about the Trump administration .
