The International Labour Organization says child labour has negative consequences with wider repercussions and without strong commitment from authorities, it can become a serious threat. The organisation defines child labour as work that is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful to children. It says child labour has a very high human cost and seriously hinders poverty reduction and development. Resh Mehta National Project Coordinator at the International Labour Organisation says the media has a role to play in raising awareness about its consequences.
