Botswana's agricultural department has embarked on a programme aimed at boosting its beef and milk sectors' productivity through extension support.
The intervention will help to increase the southern African country's national cattle herd from the current 1.7 million to five million by 2030, as well as increasing local milk production. Botswana's national cattle herd has declined from 3 million in the 1970's.
Agriculture, that remains the mainstay of Botswana's rural economy and an imperative for national food security, has been identified as a sector that lays out economic transformation with the greatest prospects.
