Malawi has become the latest country to ratify the Tripartite Free Trade Area agreement which consists of the East African Community - Comesa and SADC blocs.

The move is expected to integrate the country into the African trade bloc and the world economy bringing competition to local goods and services. 22 member States have signed the agreement while 12 have ratified it. Channel Africa's George Mhango reports from Blantyre....

Malawi becomes latest country to ratify the Tripartite Free Trade Area

The official political opposition in South Africa(SA), the Democratic Alliance(DA), is in mourning  following the death of the party veteran former leader, James Selfe at the age of 68.  Selfe lost his protracted battle with cancer on Tuesday. He was elected to the country's first democratic parliament in 1994 and served in the national assembly until his retirement in 2021.

He also served in the Portfolio Committee  of Justice and Correctional Services and was Chair of the DA's Federal Council for almost 20 years until 2019.

In 2021 Selfe testified at the State Capture Commission about corruption in Correctional Services specifically with regards to Bosasa in his capacity as DA's Shadow Minister for Correctional Services since 2009.

Tributes have poured in for the man who has been described as a pioneer and a true democrat. For more, Peter Ndoro spoke to current DA spokesperson, Siviwe Gwarube....

SA Opposition DA’s veteran former leader, James Selfe has died

Rwanda is set to deploy an additional 2,500 soldiers to Mozambique to aid their battle against Islamic State insurgency in the Cabo Delgado region.

This is part of a broader effort to stabilize the area which has been plagued by violent extremism and instability since the insurgents first attacked in 2017 disrupting numerous oil and natural gas projects in the Cabo Delgado including a TotalEnergies natural gas plant - billed at 20 billion Dollars.
