Africa Border Day 2026: Youth key to advancing regional integration and a borderless Africa

South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the recent protests against illegal migrants on Sunday night. Ramaphosa acknowledged that the concerns his citizens are raising are valid. In his speech, the president said illegal migrants are not the reason for the high unemployment in the country and further said the country has every right to implement immigration policies. Over the past few months, South Africans have been embarking on protests against illegal migrants, calling on them to return to their home countries as they blame them for the many challenges the country is faced with. Borders in Africa are often viewed through the lens of conflict, illegal immigration, and economic bottlenecks. However, they also hold the keys to African unity, intra-continental trade, and shared resource governance. To unpack the shifting paradigms of African statecraft and regional integration -Peter Ndoro spoke to Dr McBride Peter Nkhalamba, Acting Director of Governance and Specialised Reporting at the African Union's African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) and a board director at Corporate & Institutional Integrity Africa.

Over three hundred public health care facilities in South Africa have been identified to administer the new anti-HIV injection - Lenacapavir. The drug was officially rolled out in the Mpumalanga province, last Friday. South Africa is one of the nine countries in sub-Saharan Africa to have secured access to the drug.  The launch was attended by senior government officials, health care practioners, HIV/AIDS activist and academics amongst others.
