View descriptionShare

In the wake of growing public concern over a recent study by South Africa's University of the Free State, the country's Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi says the levels of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) found in sanitary pads are too low to be clinically harmful. The minister made the remarks during a joint media briefing with representatives from the World Health Organisation and the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority, following reports that popular menstrual products contained trace amounts of substances like phthalates, parabens, and bisphenols. Tsepiso Makwetla spoke to Dr Motsoaledi
