Authorities in Nigeria say they have arrested a 33-member gang linked to a deadly November 18 attack on a church in Kwara State, where 38 worshippers were abducted. According to police spokesperson Anthony Okon Placid, the suspects were apprehended through coordinated raids across Kwara and neighbouring Kogi State, as part of a broader nationwide crackdown on violent crime. The group is also believed to be responsible for a string of kidnappings, cattle rustling, and armed robberies—highlighting the persistent and evolving security challenges facing the country. South Africa and Germany have reaffirmed their long-standing strategic partnership following the 12th Meeting of the German-South African Bi-National Commission held in Berlin. The meeting comes at a symbolic time, coinciding with South Africa's 32 years as a democratic nation and 37 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. South Africa's Minister of International Relatiosn and Coperation Ronald Lamola and his German counterpart Johann Wadephul led discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation, as well as addressing peace and security challenges in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. The report reveals that families are surviving on one meal a day or less, often relying on dangerous journeys across active frontlines just to access food. After nearly three years of conflict, the country's food system has been systematically dismantled, with farms destroyed, markets disrupted, and communities left to survive through extraordinary resilience.
