In West Africa, a grim development out of Niger, where a leading human rights organization reports that jihadist militants have 'summarily executed' at least 127 civilians in a series of attacks. The killings, described as deliberate and targeted, are said to have taken place in remote villages near the country's volatile border regions. As violence by armed groups continues to spread across the Sahel, the humanitarian toll is rising sharply.
