More than 40 people, including children, were brutally killed during a nighttime church gathering in Komanda, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), an attack carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces, or ADF. 

A new report by Human Rights Watch (HRW) highlights the scale of the atrocity, the failure of nearby military and UN forces to respond in time, and the growing insecurity across the region.

Tonight,  the African media fraternity is mourning the sudden passing of Jonisayi "Warchild" Maromo, a veteran Pan-African journalist and Pretoria Bureau Chief for the African News Agency (ANA). Maromo, who had nearly two decades of experience covering international relations, crime and investigative politics, passed away in Zimbabwe while visiting his ailing mother. Tsepiso Makwetla spoke to Dianah Chiyangwa, a fellow award-winning Zimbabwean-born Photojournalist based in Johannesburg. She was a close peer and professional collaborator of Maromo.
