My Dad, My Pop: A Father's Day Tribute

View descriptionShare

In this special Father’s Day episode of Access Granted, Lowanna reflects on the two men who have shaped her life - her dad and her Pop.

She looks back on growing up as her dad’s little girl... baking chocolate cakes, watching their favourite TV shows, playing netball, going to the beach and even convincing him to let her get the family dog. She reflects on how difficult it was when her parents divorced and later, when her dad moved overseas for work.

Lowanna also pays tribute to her Pop, who has been one of the most constant and important people in her life. Now 86, he has been her protector, her biggest supporter, her guide and her connection to culture and language. She reflects on the fear of one day having to live without him, the love he has shown her throughout her life and the example he has set through the way he loves and cherishes her Nan.

It’s a personal reflection on her dad and her Pop, the different ways they have loved and shaped her, and the gratitude she feels for having them both in her life, while acknowledging that Father’s Day can also be a difficult day for those missing the fathers, grandfathers and father figures they have lost.

A love letter to two very important men in Lowanna’s life.
