Amanda Dambuza is the Chief Executive Officer of Uyandiswa – a Project Management Services Company which she started in 2014 after an illustrious career in the financial services industry. She has earned respect as an outstanding businesswoman who left a flourishing corporate career to be at the coalface of job creation.

Inspired by her own journey of seeking opportunities and meaningful work, she founded her business to shift the needle in South Africa’s unemployment challenge, but to also re-imagine the world of work by creating a working environment that stimulates creativity.

A first born daughter who was raised with the weight of responsibility to be exemplary, Nontokozo Madonsela says failure was never an option for her where leadership, structure and resourcefulness were encouraged in her parent’s home. This is a resolute spirit that has kept her going, moving from one level of success to the next in a variety of industries.

She has enjoyed great success as one of South Africa’s most talented marketers which she attributes to her passion to transform brands, to lead diverse and inclusive teams, doing work that has social and commercial impact.

Some of her notable milestones include leading a brand turn around for one of the biggest retail banks in Africa – Standard Bank, where under her leadership, a campaign entitled “What’s Your Next” changed how the retail bank in South Africa is perceived with a reported 4.4% improvement in the customer satisfaction index, the largest increase of any South African Bank.

Most recently, as the Group Chief Marketing Officer at Momentum Metropolitan Holdings, she is responsible for leading the renaming of the MMI group to Momentum Metropolitan, an achievement the group had struggled with since the merger in 2010 and through repositioning the Momentum & Metropolitan insurance brands, the brands have regained their relevance in the market.

Nontokozo Madonsela

Having served as the Teddy Bear Clinic director for many years, Dr Shaheda Omar has dedicated her life to addressing gender based violence and child abuse and continuously tackles government, holding those in power accountable as she soldiers on to fight the injustices perpetrated against children and their families.

Omar has earned the respect of government, civil society and communities who have seen the incredible effects of her interventions in alleviating the scourge of broken homes and broken societies.

In this episode of the #987Woman Leadership Conversations Podcast Series, Omar takes us back to her young days living in a community where it was evident that inter-generational trauma existed, but through communal love and nurture, people were able to rise above the pain they had been subjected and that love could and still can replicate.

She says seeing the smile on a child’s face whose life has been saved from secondary trauma and re-victimisation, is what wakes her up each day.

Omar considers growing up in a densely populated part of Johannesburg with extended family as a privilege in a community where neighbors could help and depend on each other. It is here that was nurtured through the values of kindness, sharing and caring, guiding her throughout her journey.

With a career that spans over 25 years, Zipporah started her professional life as a radio news reporter at the South African Broadcasting Corporation, went on to do government communications at the birth of the new South Africa, navigating the exciting yet complex waters of a transitioning society and shaping narratives that best encapsulated that change. She has occupied senior positions in marketing and communications amassing a wealth of experience in companies such as The Coca-Cola Company, DPD, BP and Sasol. 

 

Not a stranger to taking on the challenge of facilitating change management, Zipporah took on the challenge to reposition Altron as its Group Executive of Marketing, three years ago where she took it upon herself to rethink the brand and ideated on how to align the brand to a new strategy. A proponent of hard-work and subscribing to the idea that you have to take yourself seriously, your work seriously by constantly pursuing a standard of work that you can be proud of, Zipporah is responsible for influencing and executing Altron’s strategy by ensuring integration and alignment of messages across internal communications, media relations and investor relations to deliver a consistent experience for employees, shareholders, customers and society. She continues to work on building trust in the company by communicating its purpose, unique value position to the market, so it meets its reputational aspiration of being considered a trusted advisor in digital transformation, by business and public sector customers.
