Dear Ted and Amy,
I am 26 and have been dating my boyfriend for 5 years. We live together and have a great relationship, other than how his family treats me.My boyfriend’s family has a history of leaving me out of family events. I thought it would get better once we started living together and got older, but it hasn’t, even when he has talked to them about how it hurts me..My boyfriend’s younger sister turned 21 a few months ago, and their parents decided to take the whole family on a trip to celebrate. His immediate family as well as multiple extended family members were invited, but she requested that I not go. I have always made an effort to connect with his little sister and to my knowledge the only reason she doesn't like me is because her brother spends so much time with me. I told him that he should go on the trip to prevent her from having more animosity towards me. My boyfriend agreed, and thought that his family would be nicer to me and make more of an effort because of this.It’s been months since the trip, and his sister refuses to talk to me. She has had my number blocked for months and won’t have a conversation with me. I thought giving her space would help things, but she still does not want me around. I am heartbroken and don’t know what to do. What do I do?
