Teens ignore sun safety despite cancer risks

Three quarters of Australian teenagers reported being sunburnt last summer, with many experiencing multiple burns, according to new research by the Royal Children's Hospital involving 1,500 teens. One in four teens mistakenly believe that having a tan will protect them against skin cancer, while social media is spreading dangerous misinformation about tanning and sunscreen alternatives. Many teenagers lack basic knowledge about UV ratings and when to apply sun protection, despite Australia's long-running sun safety campaigns.
