A fatal collision between a Toyota Hilux and Mazda sedan in Appen, Sydney's southwest, has claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl. The crash occurred around 8pm, leaving a 46-year-old man and 30-year-old woman in critical condition, while a 12-year-old boy sustained minor injuries. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.

A lithium battery fire trapped residents on the third floor of a Punchbowl unit block, forcing them to retreat through smoke-filled stairwells back into their rooms. Thirty firefighters battled the blaze in a hoarder's unit, rescuing trapped residents including Ahmed Rumi and his neighbour. The tenant, a man in his 50s, escaped just in time and was hospitalised in serious condition for smoke inhalation.
