New research from the Commonwealth Bank reveals that only four in ten Australians can accurately distinguish between real and AI-generated deepfake videos. One in four Australians has encountered an AI-generated video scam in the past year, with scammers using artificial intelligence to clone voices, impersonate celebrities, and create realistic video calls for fraudulent purposes. The research found that age is not a significant factor in detecting deepfakes, with people over 65 performing only slightly less accurately than younger Australians.
