Around this time of the year, many of our beloved fur babies tend to get in a bit of mischief, which can sometimes land them in an emergency. 

Boxing Day and the next two weeks are the busiest time of the year for vets helping dogs and cats who have found themselves in trouble.

Dr Jackie Robb from Port City Emergency Vets told Chrissy Morrissy on 6PR, 'This is our busiest two-week period.'

'We just see a lot more injuries, a lot more traumas, a lot more mischief around Christmas,' Dr. Robb continued.

How to keep your four-legged friends out of trouble this festive season

More than a quarter (27%) of Australians received a Christmas present yesterday which will be in the bin as early as today.

Nina Gbor, Director of the Circular Economy and Waste Program at the Australia Institute told Chrissy Morrissy on 6PR, 'The simple solution is, to ask people what they want.'

'Whats important is that its going to save us money, and it will prevent a lot of things from going into landfill,' Gbor continued.

More than $1 Billion in Christmas presents gifted this year will go unused

Boxing Day spending is set to ramp up this year despite the cost of living crisis. 

General Manager of Karrinyup Shopping Centre, Trudy Cook told Chrissy Morrissy on 6PR, 'Our identifier has come up with 7000 people here this morning from 8 o'clock.'

Over to the east of the Metro area, DFO Centre Manager, Leanne Smith told Chrissy Morrissy, 'Boxing Day is our biggest trading day but we have extensive traffic management around out centre.'
