VKS: 'This has been a humiliation' -- Jewish organizations say Rota resignation necessary, further action from government needed to rectify Nazi veteran recognition

View descriptionShare

Multiple Jewish advocacy organizations in Canada say that the resignation of House Speaker Anthony Rota is a necessary but ultimately insufficient response to compensate for the parliamentary recognition of Yaroslav Hunka, who served in a Nazi unit during WWII.

Michal Mostyn, CEO of B'Nai Brith Canada, and Michael Levitt, CEO of Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies, tell Vassy Kapelos that Canada has a poor track record in the past dealing with accountability and justice for Nazis, and providing the Deschenes Commission records into Nazi war criminals in Canada would be a good next step.
