In October of 2023, with a year left on his deal, American all-star goalie Connor Hellebuyck had a decision to make. He could test the open market in July and potentially leave the Winnipeg Jets behind, or stay with the team that made his NHL dreams come true. He chose the latter, inking a 7-year extension worth $8.5 million per season. Nearly 3 years to the day he signed that contract, and with 5 years remaining on that 7-year pact, word got out that Hellebuyck had changed his mind. He privately requested a trade as the offseason got underway, then made it public months later after no deal was reached. And in a statement through his agent, he believes that moving on from Winnipeg is best for him and his family. It comes on the heels of multiple American All-Star talents forcing trades to new teams and a trio of record-setting contracts being signed just 2 months apart. What do we make of the NHL's evolving landscape? Bill Carroll picks the brain of Anthony LeBlanc - a former NHL President, CEO, and co-owner of multiple franchises. He is also a current advisor to potential expansion partners.
