The infrastructure deficit in Canada’s Capital sits at $229 million, an issue that multiple Canadian cities are trying to grasp. Here at home, the idea of an infrastructure levy is being debated to help rectify today’s lingering problems, as a chunk of Ottawa’s aging recreation centres are in urgent need of a facelift. And if action is delayed even further, that repair bill is sure to get bigger with each passing year. Andrew Pinsent digs deeper with Matti Siemiatycki, a Professor of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto. Meantime, Ontario’s brand-new bill to deal with misbehaving city councillors received royal assent this week. Stephanie Dobbs and Nancy Cairns argue that Bill 9 is not adequate, and fear that levels of accountability will be watered down because of it. You’ll hear from both of them on today’s show. But first, a recap of what happened at City Hall this week.
