Ottawa Now - Would a wildlife-feeding crackdown actually control Ottawa's pest population?

View descriptionShare

If you are thinking of handing a peanut to a hungry chipmunk, or pieces of bread to a crowd of ducks, you might want to think twice about doing that. Ottawa city councillor Laura Dudas is preparing a motion to City Committee on Thursday, where she plans to propose a bylaw against feeding animals. She argues, while the random act of kindness seems innocent enough, it could also attract rodents. But will this initiative actually help reduce the city’s pest population? Nathaniel Heppell is a wildlife control specialist, as well as the owner of Ace Wildlife and Pest Control. He joins Kristy Cameron on today’s Ottawa Now.
