Earlier in the show, we heard from an Associate Professor at Trent University’s School of Education, and her argument as to why today’s grading systems should be ditched. Denise Handlarki believes that grades can kill a student’s motivation to excel at their craft, adding that we need to embrace and encourage instead of criticize. When asked about his thoughts on the proposal, education expert David Johnson took a more traditional stance. He thinks that grades are still important in today’s schools, and we need to set the standards for real-world performance. If we don’t, that could lead us down a very slippery slope. He joins Kristy Cameron on today’s Ottawa Now.
