Ottawa Now - New poll says growing number of Canadians are willing to fight for their country in a time of crisis

View descriptionShare

More Canadians say they are willing to serve in the Armed Forces if Canada gets involved in a major conflict. A new poll, performed by Nanos Research for The Globe And Mail, revealed that 24 percent of respondents expressed a willingness to serve in the Canadian Military full-time if that dreadful moment arrived. Back in November of last year, that number sat at a concerning 12 percent. It comes at a time of increasing global instability – highlighted by conflicts such as the Iran War and ongoing tensions between Canada and its closest North American neighbour. And finally, these findings are unveiled months after Prime Minister Carney announced a significant boost in defense spending. Kristy Cameron checks in with Retired General Tom Lawson, a former Chief of Defense Staff for the Canadian Armed Forces.
