More than half of today’s students who attend schools in Ottawa and Toronto don’t have up-to-date immunization records. And according to public health records, both cities are falling behind. As of October 12th, Ottawa’s Public Health Unit said that roughly 16,000 students’ immunization records were not up to date, a list that starts in Grade 2 and goes as far as Grade 12. That’s over 66 percent of children in those age groups. Dr. Paul Roumeliotis is the Medical Officer of Health for the Eastern Ontario Health Unit.
