Ottawa Now – How Thursday’s announcement could alter the future of alcohol sales in Ontario

View descriptionShare

As we approach the final weeks of 2023, Ontario is preparing to change how beer, wine, and spirits can be sold. It’s a province-wide vision that has resurfaced multiple times since the Doug Ford government rose to power in 2018. Pending a ruling that could be delivered by the end of this week, convenience stores and gas stations will be added to a growing list of wine and beer sellers, perhaps as early as 2026. Critics, however, fear that this decision could eventually lead to The Beer Store’s demise. Kristy Cameron chats with Dave Bryans, the CEO of the Ontario Convenience Stores Association.
