Ottawa Now - Carleton University professor moves classes to tech-free rooms

View descriptionShare

As a new post-secondary semester kicks off, professors are facing a massive hurdle. How do you teach students to think for themselves when Artificial Intelligence can write their essays in seconds? Shawna Dolansky, a Professor of Humanities at Carleton University, says the solution is more simple than people think. In her view – give technology a time-out, ban the screens, and bring back the pen-and-paper. And this year, she is putting those words into action, moving her classes to tech-free rooms in an effort to slow students down and to raise their mental focus. She joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
