The main voices behind the Ottawa Board of Trade, Invest Ottawa, and Ottawa Tourism have penned a letter to Alto President Martin Imbleau about installing a high-speed rail station in Ottawa’s Downtown Core. The Crown corporation has been tasked with building a rail system that connects Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City. However, critics say there are bigger fish to fry, pointing out the massive risks associated with building in Downtown areas. Look no further than the Rideau Street sinkhole from 10 years ago. And now, we are hearing from Imbleau himself, as he poured cold water on the present-day Senate Building being listed as a possible option. So what does the ‘perfect spot’ look like? With just 5 games left in the regular season, and little room for error, Ottawa Charge head coach Carla MacLeod took a leave of absence from the team to focus on her cancer treatment. The players responded by winning 4 of 5, booking a return trip to the PWHL Playoffs in the process. And now, as they try to atone for last year's unfinished business, MacLeod is back on the bench as the Charge visit Boston for Game 2. Technical producer Stephen Ellsworth joins Andrew Pinsent on CFRA Weekends.

A new City Staff report on Ottawa’s Family Homelessness Strategy is highlighting an onslaught of significant issues and backlogs. It was brought up during this week’s Community Services Committee meeting at Ottawa City Hall. The city is witnessing a 76 percent increase in families experiencing homelessness since 2023 – going up from 377 to 664 dating back to last month. And while intake numbers are actually trending downwards, more and more families are getting caught in a social housing bottleneck, in which the average wait times could be as long as 8 years. CFRA’s Andrew Pinsent digs deeper with Katie Burkholder-Harris, the Executive Director of Alliance To End Homelessness Ottawa.

We did not hear back from either the Carney Liberals or the Ontario PC’s when it comes to benefits, the slowdown in the funding from those benefits that Ottawa has been allocated, or whether there could be a top-up in the future.*
