The Ottawa Hospital is building a new state-of-the-art healthcare and academic research centre on Carling Avenue near Dow’s Lake. Replacing the aging Civic Campus, it will house 641 single patient rooms and an expansion of operating rooms. The original cost of the new project was $2.8 billion – with $2.1 billion coming from the Ontario government. But on Tuesday, Infrastructure Minister David Piccini told a committee that the province’s investment in the new Civic Campus is approaching five times that original estimate, with the current investment nearing $10 billion. Should the Ontario government commit to keeping the Hospital Foundation and City of Ottawa contributions where they currently stand, regardless of whether the total cost increases? Ontario Liberal MPP Stephen Blais, who represents Orleans, joins Patricia Boal on CFRA’s Ottawa At Work.
