OAW: Ontario scientist helps discover "einsteins," solving decades-old math problem

View descriptionShare

For decades mathematicians wondered if a shape existed that could repeat in a pattern that never repeats itself and has no gaps or overlaps within the shapes.

The answer is here: it's called an einstein, and Craig S. Kaplan, associate professor in computer science at the University of Waterloo, helped discover it.

He explains the science to Patricia Boal and talks about what the feeling of discovery means.
