Vanessa Hartmann bought a house two years ago for $665,000, which is $200,000 over the asking price. Shortly afterwards, she lost her well-paying Microsoft job and interest rates sent her mortgage soaring. Defaulting on payments, she handed over the keys to Scotiabank, which is now suing her. The bank does not comment on individual cases.
