Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Wed. May 22nd, 2024

View descriptionShare

Ottawa’s Board of Trade has officially unveiled its new action plan to revolutionize our city’s Downtown Core. It is simply called the ‘Downtown Ottawa Action Agenda’, but its aspirations are quite ambitious. They are calling for $500 million over the next 10 years from all levels of government. They want people to catch more live events in the heartbeat of Canada’s Capital. They want to see an additional 40,000 residents. They want to attract 50,000 more jobs by 2034. Oh, and they want to see brand-new transit riders over the next decade, preferably within the 15,000 to 20,000 range. By standing idly by and not taking any action, we risk fueling an uptick in commercial vacancies and a massive dent in unpaid tax revenues. Joining Kristy Cameron to discuss further are OBOT Board Chair Brendan McGuinty and OBOT President Sueling Ching. Meantime, at least a dozen people across Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec allege paying a deposit worth thousands of dollars to have their windows replaced. Today, they are desperately trying to find where their hard-earned money has gone.
