As we heard on the news several times last week, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has broken off from the united messages that were originally being touted by the majority of Canada’s Premiers. She wants to see a tariff deal through a ‘diplomatic’ lens. On Wednesday, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe reiterated his commitment to a unified response against President Trump’s economic gut-punch, which could be implemented by America’s new leader on the first day of February. At the same time, there are some counter-attack tactics that Moe wants Canada to avoid, such as dollar-for-dollar tariffs. Is the united front among Canada’s Premiers on the verge of collapsing? Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Eric Miller, a Fellow at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute. Meantime, the councillor for Kitchissippi Ward wants to speed up the proposed zoning changes that would allow emergency shelters to open anywhere in urban Ottawa. Jeff Leiper fears that the current rules and regulations could slow down much-needed projects, hence his request to accelerate the process. He explains further in Hour 2.
