After a pair of fatal weekend incidents, and the Victoria Day Weekend fast approaching, it’s time to have a quick chat about water safety. Kristy Cameron chats with Stephanie Bakalar, a spokesperson at Lifesaving Society Ontario, in Hour 2. Meantime, roughly 145,000 babies born in Ontario every year are tested for treatable conditions, using blood that was taken right after they were born. They are screened for Cystic Fibrosis, Endocrine diseases, Metabolic diseases, and more. Today, researchers are looking at using Genomic Newborn Screening, a first-of-its-kind device in North America. Here to tell us more about the project is Dr. Neal Sondheimer. He is the Medical Director of Newborn Screening Ontario at CHEO.
