Prime Minister Carney says he won’t be spending his days living at 24 Sussex Drive, but he wants to see his successors call the historic residence home. However, it’s well documented that a lot of elbow grease is needed before that happens, as the present-day Canadian leader re-ignites the call for action. He calls the current state of the 19th-Century property an ‘embarrassment’, one that housed Canadian Prime Ministers dating back to 1951. It hasn’t been lived in since the Stephen Harper days of 2015, not to mention shuttered completely since 2022. And over the course of the past 4 years, workers have stripped the property of mould, asbestos, lead, and unwelcomed rodents.
