Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. May 30th, 2024

View descriptionShare

Ontario has announced a series of brand-new high school graduation requirements, all part of the province’s ‘back-to-basics’ approach to education. A financial literacy graduation requirement, for example, is one of the biggest changes on the table. Starting next year, high-schoolers will need to pass this assessment during their Grade 10 Math course, needing a 70-or-higher in order to graduate. Kristy Cameron chats with OSSTF President Karen Littlewood in Hour 1. Meantime, a pivotal transportation beacon in Kingston is facing a necessary demolition. The federal government had previously assured residents that repairs to the LaSalle Causeway Bascule Bridge were headed in the right direction. That positive update was sent all the way back in March. But after brand-new damages were spotted, those plans have since changed, and a temporary solution should be in place within the next few weeks.
