Over 300 parents have signed a petition calling for crossing guards and flashers. It comes after too many close calls in a West End neighbourhood – with two schools not far from the corner of Charing and Bertona Road. Amanda Charbonneau, the parent who started the petition, says the intersection is especially dangerous for kids during rush-hour times. Kristy Cameron checks in with Rob Attrell, an advocate for the School Streets Initiative and an urbanism consultant. Meantime, the City of Ottawa is funding a pilot project to get portable ramps into the hands of local businesses. A non-profit called StopGap Ottawa had been making and selling ramps since 2015, but halted operations this Spring due to a lack of demand.
