Back in January, a school in Whitehorse launched a rarely-seen policy, which would allow peanuts and tree nuts on the premises. The decision was made after a series of consultations with both staff and families, including those with food allergies. However, recent research has questioned the effectiveness of blanket, site-wide food restrictions. Is it time for Canada’s schools to modernize their food allergy policies? Kristy Cameron digs deeper with Dr. Samira Jeimy, an allergist at the Allergy and Immunology Program at the St. Joseph's Health Care Centre. She is based in London, Ontario. Plus, Ontario’s schools will be closing their doors on April 8th, as the looming solar eclipse poses a security risk to some of Canada’s youngest minds. Are they missing out on an exclusive ‘classroom session’? We sift through the comments section later in today’s program.
