Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Fri. April 19th, 2024

View descriptionShare

On Thursday, Prime Minister Trudeau published a tweet that started quite the firestorm. He says that his government has cut the cost of cellphone plans in half since 2019, partially done through an increase in competition. Up next on the Red Team’s chopping block: Junk fees on cellphone bills. This would give Canadians more power over telecommunication providers, allowing them to cancel their phone plans or switch to cheaper packages with no added charges. David Soberman, a Professor of Marketing at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, encourages Canadians to take these comments with a grain of salt. He joins Kristy Cameron to explain further. Meantime, if the feds want to solve the country’s housing dilemmas, experts say it will have to solve a longstanding construction shortage first. That story is coming up in Hour 1.
