As the Transit Committee prepares for a short-term dissolution, we have received positive LRT news! Well, cautiously-optimistic news that is subject to change. Next month, OC Transpo plans to begin pre-trial running on the O-Train East Extension. Once the green light for regular operation is given by the proper authorities, this line will eventually bring LRT commuters all the way to Orleans. At the moment, OC Transpo GM Rick Leary isn’t committing to any exact dates for a grand-opening, and the 21 days of testing is probably chief among his list of reasons for keeping things quiet. We also don’t have a definitive timeline for the LRT upload to Queen’s Park, nor do we have a grand-opening date for the new Ottawa Central Library. Joining Andrew Pinsent for this week’s City Issues Panel are former City Hall reporter Jon Willing and Ottawa Citizen columnist Brigitte Pellerin.
