Ongoing tensions between America and Venezuela are running high, as the U.S. President continues to ponder his next move. At the moment, U.S. forces are issuing strikes against alleged drug boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific, with the legality of those actions fueling questions. President Trump has also made continuous threats to extend on-land military operations on Venezuelan soil. And in light of last year’s contested Venezuelan election, America’s top officials do not recognize Nicolas Maduro as the country’s legitimate leader, as economic and political issues persist. Salvador Herencia Carrasco, a UOttawa Law Professor, oversees the Human Rights Clinic at the Human Rights Research Centre. He joins Andrew Pinsent on CFRA Weekends.
