Trustees will eventually return to the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, but their responsibilities will change. It’s part of a series of sweeping changes to school board governance in Ontario, as a new Chief Executive Officer will oversee budgets at all English Public and Catholic school boards. As told by Education Minister Paul Calandra, the Ford government plans to introduce a salary cap, reduce the number of elected trustees to no more than 12 per board, and eliminate the majority of expense counts. Additionally, the responsibility for local bargaining will shift away from the school board trustees to the newly-appointed CEOs.
