Following a legal tug-of-war that lasted several months, the Supreme Court of Canada will not hear the appeals of a B.C. ostrich farm, and a planned cull was given the green light to proceed on Friday. It was sparked by a 2024 Avian Flu outbreak at Universal Ostrich Farms, which killed 80 birds. However, the farm’s owner argued that the remaining ostriches should survive, as they allegedly showed no signs of illness. This led to a flood of arguments throughout the small-town neighbourhood, and eventually to Friday’s conclusion. Angie Rasmussen is a virologist and researcher at the University of Saskatchewan. She joins Andrew Pinsent on CFRA Weekends.
