CFRA Live - Assassination of American political activist showcases today's dark colours of American politics

View descriptionShare

Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old American political activist, bid farewell to his wife and two young children before attending a speaking engagement in Utah. For him, Wednesday morning started just like any other. It would be the last day that his family would see him alive. In the middle of Wednesday’s discussion, Kirk was graphically shot and killed with a single bullet, as police frantically searched for his killer. On Friday, 33 hours after the fatal shooting, a 22-year-old was detained and charged by law enforcement. In the hours and minutes between, tributes for Kirk overflowed social media timelines, but so did a crowd of his critics who praised his downfall. What does the online reaction to this graphic assassination tell us about the state of U.S. politics right now? Andrew Cohen is a local author, journalist, and a Journalism Professor at Carleton University. He joins Andrew Pinsent on CFRA Live.
