Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk was roughly 420 kilometres above the Earth when he stepped into the vacuum of space earlier this morning, making him the fifth Canadian to perform a spacewalk. During the spacewalk – expected to last nearly 7 hours – Kutryk helped install 7 of 8 new solar arrays that were needed to upgrade the station’s power capacity. Joining us in Hour 4 is Sara Mazrouei, an Educational Developer at Humber Polytechnic's Centre for Innovative Learning. She is also a planetary geologist. Shifting gears to Queen’s Park, Ontario's Finance Minister says the province's fiscal outlook has worsened due to global uncertainty and trade disruptions, leading to a larger deficit in 2026 and a delayed path to balance. CTV’s Siobhan Morris delivers the details. And finally, we get the latest weather forecast from CTV’s Jackie Perez.

Hour 4 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. October 29th, 2026

Ottawa is staring down the barrel of the worst year of fatal collisions in recent memory. But what is actually causing these problems, and how can we fix them? Last hour, we chatted with Chris Hircock, the co-founder of Vision Zero Ottawa. He feels that people are discussing this issue in a detached way – mostly by throwing out numbers and stats. In doing so, that pushes us away from the humanity and the tragedy that is at the heart of these collisions. Furthermore, Hircock says the City of Ottawa needs to put their money where their mouth is, and that simply telling people to ‘drive carefully’ isn’t going to give us any form of productive solutions. Until we see that political will to change the outcome, Hircock fears that not much is going to change. Do you agree with him? Kristy Cameron sifts through the CFRA textboard and tackles today’s Question of the Day. Plus, in an effort to boost transparency and efficiency, the Ottawa Police Service is actively executing its multi-phase rollout of body-worn cameras following a successful initial pilot project. CTV’s Tyler Fleming delivers the details in Hour 3.

Hour 3 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. October 29th, 2026

In recent years, we’ve seen the slow fly on Halloween Night. However, that’s not shaping up to be the case for 2026, as Ottawa is set to enjoy a stretch of warmer-than-normal temperatures for the final days of October and the early days of November. Kristy Cameron checks in with Doug Gillham, a meteorologist with The Weather Network. Meantime, there have been 32 traffic-related deaths in Ottawa this year, cementing the deadliest on Ottawa’s roads in recent memory. Not only that, collisions resulting in life-threatening injuries have also increased by 40 percent in 2026. The big question – why is this happening? We dig deeper with Chris Hircock, the co-founder of Vision Zero Ottawa, in Hour 2. They are an organization committed to advancing a transportation system where no loss of life or serious injury is considered acceptable. Plus, Canadian rock legend Bryan Adams has released a new song about Lake Ontario. It’s called, of course, Lake Ontario. CFRA’s Chris Holski has more on that.
