Every Friday on 5FM's Mid Mornings, Stephanie Be explores three undiscovered brand new artists to the 5FM playlist. Today on the show:
ARTIST 1: SHABOOZEY - A Bar Song (Tipsy)
Shaboozey, is a Nigerian-American rapper, singer-songwriter, filmmaker, and record producer. Shaboozey was born in northern Virginia to parents from Nigeria. His stage name is derived from mispronunciations of his surname Chibueze, meaning "God is king" in Igbo. In 2024, he collaborated with Beyoncé on two tracks from her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter.
ARTIST 2: MACKENZY MACKAY - Venus
Mackenzy Mackay (Mack) is a british singer songwriter who blends pop, hip hop, soul and funk in his music. He rose to fame after posting his single “London” on Tik Tok.
ARTIST 3: SOPHIE POWERS ft ASHLEY SIENNA - Obsessed
Sophie Powers just wants to make you feel. Call her music whatever you want – hyper-punk or alt-pop or glitch-rock or any other manner of contrived portmanteau.
Born in Toronto and raised in an extremely musical family, Sophie knew she wanted to be a performer from an early age – and although she says it was “pure delusion” that led her to doggedly pursue music, she clearly saw in herself a keen pop instinct.
