September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
On Saturday, 26 September, Cupcakes of Hope will hold National Cupcake Day across more than 80 shopping centres around South Africa, alongside participation from schools, businesses, workplaces and communities.
The organisation is asking South Africans to become Cupcake Angels by registering and pledging to bake just 24 cupcakes.
People who cannot bake can still participate by buying cupcakes at participating stalls or helping spread the campaign.
The scale behind what sounds like a wonderfully simple fundraiser is significant.
According to Cupcakes of Hope, in the last year alone the organisation:
+ Supported more than 140 children every month.
+ Approved almost 2,000 requests for financial assistance.
+ Delivered 3,766 Hospital Care Bags.
+ Reached children receiving treatment across all 21 paediatric oncology wards in South Africa.
+ Mobilised more than 2,400 Cupcake Angels.
+ Raised more than R2 million through National Cupcake Day.
