Annual inflation has held steady at 3.8%, though slight ticks in underlying figures are largely driven by the fading impact of electricity rebates rather than extreme price spikes.

Chief Economist at the Australia Institute, Greg Jericho, joined Jason Matthews on 4BC Mornings to explain that while consumers and small businesses are rapidly tightening their belts, a potential interest rate hike is unlikely until at least May.
